2. Babri Masjid: 

The controversy surrounding the site began with the construction of the Babri Masjid in the 16th century by Mughal Emperor Babur. Hindus believe that the mosque was built after demolishing a pre-existing temple at the birthplace of Lord Ram.

The dispute intensified in the 20th century, leading to legal battles between Hindu and Muslim groups over ownership of the site.


4. Demolition: 

On December 6, 1992, the Babri Masjid was demolished by Hindu nationalist groups, leading to widespread communal violence across India.

Following the demolition, legal battles ensued, with both Hindu and Muslim groups claiming ownership of the land.


6. Land Dispute Resolution: 

In November 2019, the Supreme Court of India ruled in favor of the construction of a Hindu temple at the disputed site while also ordering the allocation of alternate land to the Muslim parties for the construction of a mosque.


7. Construction of Ram Mandir: Construction of the Ram Mandir began in August 2020, following a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
